Story
The planet is awash with plastic, and our oceans are dying.
Founded in 2016 by Dominic, Jacquiline & Audrey Powers, the Phuket Beach Conservancy works with the community, businesses and tourists to protect the beaches and oceans of Phuket from pollution of all kinds.
By helping the local community and businesses to better understand how much Phuket's natural beauty contributes to their own social and economic well-being, we aim to mobilise locals and the tourism industry to adopt a greener way of living.
From regular Beach Comber Days up and down the island, to presentations to local schools and Phuket-based businesses encouraging the use of less plastic and polystyrene, this not-for-profit organisation aims to see Phuket's beaches free from litter no matter the season.
Regular beach cleans are a great way to educate, but they are labour intensive and simply cannot pick up all of the waste that needs to be picked up, particular during the rainy season.
Our aim is to acquire a BeachTech 2000 beach cleaning machine, and to lobby the Governor of Phuket so that we can get permission to use it to clean the beaches that surround Phuket.
The BeachTech 2000 costs US$75,000 to buy, and we will then need to acquire a tractor to pull it as well as pay shipping costs, and duties, and ensure that we can cover the operating costs for at least 2 years.
If you love Phuket, or just love the oceans and our beautiful planet, please help us raise the funds to make a positive change for the future of Phuket and the world.
Here are clips of a BeachTech 2000 in action in Thailand:
In Pha Ngan Island – The beach owner association got together to buy the machine and operate it jointly.

In Songklha Province - Here it was procured by Songkhla City Municipality themselves.

8 years agoSo here we go again. Our first efforts raised more than US$600 on this site which will kick start this round. We have also received a pledge of another US$1,000 from a personal donation. A long way from the target we need to hit but we will continue to work towards our goal of keeping Phuket's beaches free from plastics and other trash. No doubt the road is long, but it is one worth taking...
